Back in Alexandria after another spell in Alaska. Not the cheapest thing in the world, flying to the 49th state and back all the time. But in a way, it's priceless.
What a lovely picture, it looks really green there. But is that an elk / moose / deer in the distance? You can see how little I know about Alaskan fauna ;)

Yep, that's a moose. Very common in Anchorage back yards. This poor fella/lass is a yearling; we'd seen it with its mother earlier in the summer, but now she has disappeared and we fear she was hit by a car. (The car would not have fared well.) There were also some black bears in the area, so maybe they took her. Either way, the outlook for the poor fella/lass without her isn't too bright.
