It is said that smell, more than any other sense, has the power to transport one to a time and a place previously experienced. It's a sensation we've all experienced. Music, too, is an extremely strong reminder, particularly music we associate with times of great happiness or grief. When I think of "I Feel Love", I am immediately transported back to the summer of 1977 and a blissfully happy childhood. I think of sunny days, of the Silver Jubilee, of playing in the garden with our dog, of watching and admiring my brothers who seemed so very old and mature but were in fact 21 and 20. It is a timeless classic, and in memory of Donna Summer, who died today at the tragically young age of 63, I shall be playing it often.
